Juan José holds a PhD in Architecture and an MPhil in Environmental Design, both from the University of Cambridge, and qualified as an architect in Chile before moving to the UK in 2008. Before joining Citydesigner in 2015 he was an Associate Professor of Sustainable Urban Design and a design studio tutor. His previous experience includes: four years as a researcher at the University of Cambridge and MIT (US); one year as a visiting urban design consultant in Colombia; and two years as an architect at Planungsgruppe Kasper Architekten, in Germany, designing buildings and masterplans within historic urban settings. At Citydesigner he collaborates with architects and developers providing them with design advice, producing Heritage, Townscape and Visual Impact Assessments (HTVIA) for new developments in historic settings, including Environmental Statements, and assisting in the preparation of expert witness representations at public inquiries. He is a passionate advocate of outstanding design quality in all of his projects, which are mostly based in Central London and Dublin, and include: the new Peninsula Hotel at Hyde Park Corner and 19-35 Baker Street, both with Hopkins Architects; One Leadenhall with Make Architects; the new Cleveland Clinic, on Grosvenor Place, with PLP Architecture; Spencer Place, in Dublin, with Henry J Lyons Architects; Fulham Gasworks, with Robin Partington and Partners, Fred Pilbrow and Partners, and EPR Architects; Chelsea Creek, with Squire and Partners; and Dolphin Square, with Eric Parry Architects.
